Glass retention for businesses

Commercial Security Film in Orlando

For a business, a broken front window means a break-in, a mess, a lost day and a board-up bill. Commercial security film keeps cracked glass in the frame, slows forced entry and cuts down on flying glass inside the space.

How Commercial Security Film Protects Orlando Storefronts

Commercial security film is a thick polyester laminate bonded to the inside face of the glass. A hammer or a thrown rock will still crack the pane, but the fragments stay attached to the film. An intruder has to hit the same spot repeatedly to open a hole, and that takes time and makes noise. Smash-and-grab thieves who count on one strike and a few seconds inside often give up.

For more strength, the filmed glass can be anchored to the frame with an attachment system. A structural bead or a mechanical strip ties the film to the mullions, so the whole pane cannot be pushed in as a sheet. On retail doors and the glass beside them, this is usually the first upgrade we recommend because those panes take the most abuse.

Security Film for Orlando Retail, Clinics, Schools and Hotels

Retailers along Colonial Drive through Mills 50, Orange Blossom Trail and the busy suburban corridors are the most common clients, especially stores with high-value inventory like phones, electronics, liquor or jewelry. Pharmacies and medical clinics want the same protection for both inventory and patient areas. In Lake Nona and around the AdventHealth and Orlando Health campuses, medical office buildings put retention film on lobby glass and the double-door airlocks at their entrances.

Schools, daycare centers and churches use security film to keep glass in place near entries and classrooms. Hotels and resorts along International Drive and US 192 in Kissimmee film lobby doors, ground-floor guest rooms that open onto pool decks, and glass in back-of-house areas. Banks, government offices and property management offices round out the list.

Commercial Security Film and Central Florida Storms

We say this plainly to every property manager. Glass retention film is not a hurricane product. A filmed storefront is no more impact-rated than it was the day before, film alone will not pass Florida Building Code rules for wind-borne debris at openings, and a building still needs its shutters, storm panels or impact glazing. When a tropical system is forecast for Orlando, follow your building's storm plan.

What film does do is hold broken glass together when a pane is hit by debris in an ordinary summer thunderstorm, a falling branch or a shopping cart blown across a parking lot. That keeps shards off the floor and out of merchandise, and it keeps the opening closed a little longer until the glass is replaced. It reduces cleanup and injury risk, nothing more.

Installing Commercial Security Film With Minimal Downtime

Security film installs are scheduled around business hours, typically before opening, after closing or on a weekend. A single storefront and door usually take part of a day. Larger jobs, such as a medical office building's ground floor or a hotel's pool-side rooms, are phased so only part of the property is affected at once.

We check every pane before quoting. Tempered, laminated and insulated glass all take security film, but the choice of film and attachment depends on the glass and the frame. Older storefront systems with worn gaskets or loose glazing beads may need repair before film is worth adding. Security film is clear by default and also available with tint or frosting for privacy and heat control.

Hotel properties need extra planning. Guest rooms are taken out of inventory a block at a time, often in the slow weeks between convention bookings, and we work with the engineering department so rooms go back on sale the same day. Pool-facing rooms are usually done first because their sliders take the most traffic.

What Glass Retention Film Does for Orlando Businesses

01

Retention Film Delays Smash-and-Grab Thieves

Filmed glass takes repeated blows to break through, which costs thieves time and noise. That delay often stops a smash-and-grab at an Orlando storefront before anything leaves the store. Owners on Colonial Drive and Orange Blossom Trail say that delay is the whole point.

02

Less Broken Glass Inside the Business

When a pane breaks, shards stay bonded to the film instead of falling on staff, customers or merchandise, which reduces injury risk and cleanup after a break-in or storm debris strike. The space can reopen sooner because the cleanup is smaller and safer for staff.

03

Openings Stay Closed Until Glass Is Replaced

A cracked pane that is bonded to film tends to hang in the frame rather than collapse, so rain and intruders stay out while the glass company schedules the replacement. That can spare you a late-night emergency board-up.

04

Clear Commercial Security Film

Clear security film leaves storefronts looking exactly as they did, so displays stay visible and the building's appearance does not change for the landlord or the street. Landlords rarely object because nothing changes on the facade.

Orlando Commercial Security Film Questions

Is commercial security film hurricane protection?

No. It does not make glass impact-rated or meet Florida Building Code opening protection rules. It holds broken glass together and slows forced entry. Keep your storm shutters or panels.

Do we need an attachment system?

On doors and the panes beside them, it adds a lot of strength and is usually worth it. On upper or less accessible glass, film alone is often enough.

Will security film make our storefront look different?

Clear security film is very hard to see. A narrow edge line is the only visible sign. Tinted and frosted versions are available if you want them.

Can security film go over the existing tinted glass on our building?

Usually. We confirm what the glass is and whether the film maker allows that pairing before quoting.

How many years will commercial security film hold up?

Applied to the inside face, it serves for many years. The exact coverage period for commercial jobs is set in the film maker's warranty, which we include with the proposal.
